Thursday, December 16, 2004 In a hurry I think I am packed. I most probably forgot something extremely important, but that's part of life ... Tuesday Derek was a no show so I ended up spending an obscene (and I mean absolutely obscene) amount of money for a "spa" manicure/pedicure/eyebrows combo. Once again, two guys walked in sipping coffee and asked for a pedicure. Now ? what kind of men are hanging out together and suddenly decide to get a tootsie treatment????? This metrosexual thing has gone too far! On my way home, as I was crossing 51st. St., I saw a cyclist flying in the air and landing just by the Divine's door. Aware of all my training as "first responder" I quickly approached the scene of the accident, frantically trying to remember the CPR sequence, like somebody was going to be dying from a crash on their bike. I get there and ask the guy holding his elbow whether he needed me to call for help. He spoke no English so I tried in Spanish. Then I realized there was a girl involved in the incident too. She was mightly pissed at the guy getting all the attention. It was all like "I am hurt too!". And in the end she also spoke perfect Spanish. After a short while I decided to leave them so she could keep nagging at him at ease. Yesterday, Wednesday, a small group of us we went to Babel Lounge. Nothing to report, except that the website is better than the place. Even if I had something to report I could not do it now. A car will be picking me up in an hour and I have still to write a few checks for the doormen's tips, among other things. See you soon! 3:39 PM 2 comments Tuesday, December 14, 2004 The geek dilemma I am still wondering: iBook or Moleskine? Moleskine or iBook? Or both? None is not an option. I can carry my phone numbers and e-mail addresses on my iPod, leave my bookmarks on my iDisk ... I could phone in my posts or highjack Jimena's iMac or M.A.'s laptop. But then ... I will not be able to watch DVDs or downloaded TV series on the plane. Frankly, I never do. Sometimes I read. Usually I fall asleep. But my iBook is like my security blanket. I now almost everything that matters to me is there or within reach. Should I or shouldn't I? Please give me some advice! Tomorrow is my last day at work. I am taking Thursday off because I have yet to pack, among other things, and I'll be plenty busy both tonight and tomorrow night. This is why I usually sleep on planes. It does not matter how much miles I have traveled in my life, how much of a non-event flying is to me by now, I still go crazy list-making and trying to carry my whole house in a couple of suitcases. I hardly ever sleep the night before because I am double checking the list and worrying about what I will forget. Then, of course, I never take what I need. Mmm ... I am leaning towards the Moleskine now ... But will I have changed my mind on Thursday? This morning I made some progress on the basic maintenance list. I highlighted my hair. In a hurry and half asleep. The results are less than thrilling. I have a few bright orange patches adorning my crown now. Tonight, post-Derek, I might make it to the brow shaping specialist. "Brow shaping specialist"?????? I know, I know, this is totally pathetic. 2:52 PM 0 comments Sunday, December 12, 2004 A mystical morning It's actually quite unbelievable, but yesterday I went to church, to be present at Fabian's ordination. Even more unbelievable, I translated one of the speeches into English. Plenty of God this and God that. I am wondering whether I did it because there was a luncheon afterwards and a party in the evening, but I did not stay long at noon and did not attend in the evening. So I guess I was there just because Fabian is one hell of a guy and this was very important to him. I also did it out of curiosity. I've been to Baptist and Presbiteryan churches but never to a Lutheran one and it was very interesting to see that the liturgy is almost identical to the Catholic one. Actually, too similar for comfort. At the luncheon I chatted with a guy who told me about the Four Seasons in Uruguay. He raved about the place. I checked it on the Web and now it's on my list of places to go to. Pilar at the luncheon, making sure both her ears are in place I have to call back Pam. She called me yesterday while I was at the luncheon and burst out laughing. Having a Minister friend plus the fact that I killed the mouse and hence I am a murderer will put some strain on our friendship. Geek doubts Should I bring my iBook to Spain? The thought of being off-line for two weeks is disquieting but the experience might do me good. Maybe my Moleskine will be enough for my journalling needs. Maybe I should try non-digital diaring. I can always scan the pages and upload them once I come back. I will definitely bring my iPod and my digital camera, so it's not like I will go gadget-cold turkey. Still ... I know I will be able to check my mail at my niece's (I will be forwarding all my mail from different addresses to my gmail address, just in case I don't check too often), but what about web surfing for hours on end? I do not want to be worrying about the safety of my laptop while traveling and Spain is not big on wireless so I'll probably won't be able to get on line that often anyways. Also, hopefully I will be busy enough bar hopping and talking M.A.'s ears off. I will be bringing a couple of books too. It should be enough, shouldn't it? 10:22 AM 0 comments Friday, December 10, 2004 Drained Back from the party, back from Opal. I danced non stop for hours on end. I might as well chop my legs off now as I don't think they will be functional at all for a while. Also, I might be jobless soon, or at least careerless, if some of the big shots were still in the room when Marc and I performed our little improvised rendition of Voulez-vous coucher avec moi? complete with Marc on his knees and then on the floor with me walking over him. Lets leave it at that. M.A. called just before the party. Only a week to go! I absolutely gotta get some rest now. More tomorrow. 1:30 AM 0 comments Thursday, December 09, 2004 Party at Mario's Some of the photos taken by Elena last Saturday are up on my photo gallery. I'll probably take some tonight too. 5:06 PM 0 comments Die, monster, die! The beast was caught. I only hope he's not a member of an extended family. Day before yesterday, in truly geek-fashion and with a sense of mounting panic, I left my Tekno dog guarding the kitchen, hoping the furry revolting thing would be terrified by the robot’s tail-wagging and blinking red eyes. Unfortunately Tekno's batteries ran out. Yesterday evening I begged my favorite doorman to do something and he immediately came up and put some glue traps in the kitchen (guess who’s going to get a fat X-mas tip from me?). When I came back from some bar hopping, the creature was stuck to the glue, feet up in the air, making screeching sounds. Pam will kill me. She wanted me to buy a Havahart trap and free the mouse in Central Park. Yeah, sure. Yesterday, while Mickey Mouse was fighting for its life, I had half a dinner at the Townhouse with Nicolas, Miguel, Mario and Bernie. We then went to a bar across the street. The bar was not 100% gay. There were some lesbians too. And maybe one hetero. And there was a drag queen show. After a couple of apple martinis we split along sexual persuasion lines and Bernie and I tried the bars on 2nd Ave. They were all pretty deserted. Finally we got to the Divine and stayed there until they turned the lights on. The guys there must live in fear of seeing me cross the door. Their early night is pretty much shot if I am in the house. In any case this Bernie guy is very nice. Sweet and not stupid at all. Interesting conversation. This evening is Nero’s party at work. We might continue the celebration elsewhere after 11 PM. Tomorrow I might go to the movies. Then Saturday is Fabián's ordinations and all-day festivities. Sunday will be crazy. I have a million things to do. I have to start packing and I have to take care of basic maintenance (hair coloring, manicure, pedicure, brow shaping, teeth whitening, etc.). This business of looking "natural” is very time-consuming. Some people actually believe I don’t wear make-up. Ha! My skin is usually buried under several strata of products. Should you see me au natural you would barf and you would not even know what you're barfing at because you would not recognize me. 3:16 PM 0 comments Tuesday, December 07, 2004 Shocked, disgusted, panicked Woke up this morning, walked into the kitchen and ... saw a thing running over the countertop ... I thought it was a cockroach, but it was too big and too fast ... furry and brown ... A MOUSE!!!!!!!!! Paralysed by shock I quicky took a shower and went downstairs to alert the doorman. He looked at me and guessed I had bad news. I appraised him and another employee of the situation and told them they'd better do something or I am moving out. They found my reaction mildly amusing. I have this image of the mouse waiting for me in bed!!!!! 10:06 AM 0 comments Monday, December 06, 2004 Lascivious 4:02 PM 0 comments Sunday, December 05, 2004 Maybe a time will come when I will post something worth reading But the day is not today. So ... Friday I saw the Nutcracker and then skipped Fabián's birthday. Saturday the trainer-and-dance-class enchilada. I also walked all over town and spent a small fortune at Lush. I was absolutely pooped in the evening. Baby-sat Anastasia and Nina while Cecilia and Silvio went to see the movie Whisky (Silvio worked on that movie and Anastasia does a nanosecond flash appearance) and chatted up Gael Garcia Bernal who was there too. They were even going to have a drink with him afterwards but they had to come home and relieve me of my duties so I could go to Mario's party. I am not sure I could have forgiven them if they had indeed gone out with the Gael guy without me. I am happy I ruined their evening and I got to go to the party with Cecilia. More dancing there, controlled drinking and home early. Today I woke up exhausted and could not talk myself into leaving the bed until well after 1 PM. Met Debra for a craft show (a complete disappointment) at 3.30 and had a 4.50 PM dinner with her at an Italian restaurant in the Upper East I've already been to twice but can't remember the name. Grocery shopping at Fresh Fields and back home, where I have yet to do anything. I am still exhausted. I am perfectly aware I should try and write something at least vaguely interesting, but I am too damn tired and have a great book to read, not to mention work to do - but that will have to wait. In the meantime, while you wait for me to post something half-decent, go and indulge a popular compulsion. And while you are wasting your time popping bubbles, I am counting the days until I finally get to go to Madrid. 11:03 PM 0 comments Saturday, December 04, 2004 Screeching bed New neighbors, same thing. They are at it with abandon. I am about to knock on the wall and ask if I may join them. 1:57 AM 0 comments Wednesday, December 01, 2004 Hooked on 1. A great new TV show: Huff. I've bitorrented (have I just coined a new term?) the first 4 episodes and I am already hooked. An interesting plot, great characters, smooth cameras and the first older actor I find extremely attractive. Well, maybe not the first. Kevin Spacey ain't bad either. 2. A fantastic new anti-ageing potion: Freeze 24-7. I swear, it works! 3. Derek's new coreography. Complicated, fast, challenging. Fun, fun, fun. I still have posts pending from last week, but I have soooo many things to do. Today after work I am off to take care of a few X-mas presents left and then it's dinner at Cecilia's. Tomorrow it's probably a new dance class and Friday it's The Nutcracker. Saturday it's a gazillion things: trainer and dance in the morning, craft fair in the afternoon, babysitting in the early evening and maybe a party later on. Maybe I'll rest on Sunday, just like God herself. 2:10 PM 0 comments |
